on non-jaundiced patients (Clairmont and Von Haberer, 1911; Aird, 1953 ; Zollinger and Williams, 1956). Considerable decreases in renal blood-flow have been shown to occur with traction on viscera during abdominal operations (de Wardener, 1955) or in shock (Lauson et al., 1944). It is possible that obstructive jaundice renders the kidney more sensitive to decreased blood-flow-that is, anoxia. Experiments were therefore carried out to test this hypothesis. Using unilaterally nephrectomized rats, the effect of clamping the remaining renal pedicle for 60 minutes was compared in jaundiced and non-jaundiced animals. Furthermore, observations were made on the effect of a mannitol diuresis on such

The Protective Effect of Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Nanoparticles in Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Damage

Background& objectives: Renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR) damage occurs during renal transplantation in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients which activate immune responses. Inflammatory responses by increased levels of cytokines can lead to acute kidney injury (AKI) that contributes to the loss of renal grafts and graft dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to review the therapeutic effe...

اثر حفاظتی سیمواستاتین در آسیب ناشی از ایسکمی – رپرفیوژن کلیه و نقش کانال‌های پتاسیمی حساس به آدنوزین تری فسفات

Background & Aim: Renal dysfunction due to ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is a common problem following renovascular surgery or kidney transplantation. There is a lot of emerging evidence that statins, which are HMG-COA reductase inhibitors, have renal protective effects against ischemia-reperfusion injury, but the exact mechanism of their protective effect has not been detected properly....

Protective Effects of Crocin against Cisplatin-Induced Acute Renal Failure and Oxidative Stress in Rats

Background. The major side effect of cisplatin, used in some tumours, is nephrotoxicity. Reactive oxygen species and oxidative damage are the most important factors in cisplatin-induced acute renal failure. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the protective effects of crocin against cisplatin-induced acute renal failure and oxidative stress in rat. Methods. In this study, animal...

Protective Effect of Royal Jelly against Renal Damage in Streptozotocin Induced Diabetic Rats

Background: Royal jelly has been shown to have antioxidant and antidiabetic effects. The objective of this study was to evaluate the protective effect of RJ against kidney damage in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Methods: Thirty two male Wistar rats were divided randomly into four groups (n=8 per group). Normal control and diabetic control groups received 1cc/day distilled water, norm...

The effect of intrarenal infusion of bile on kidney function in the dog.

1. Obstructive jaundice sensitizes the kidney to anoxic damage. To clarify further this phenomenon the effect of unilateral infusion of bile on kidney function was studied. The contralateral intact kidney served as control. 2. Intrarenal infusion of diluted bile (1:10) resulted in an ipsilateral fourfold increase in mean rate of urinary flow (P less then 0.01), threefold increase in mean fracti...
